Title: Sr. Data Modeler

Duration: 6 months, possible extension

Job Type: W2 Contract 

 

** Candidates need (non-negotiable)

  • Azure ecosystem from a data lake perspective (ADL, ADF, etc...)
  • Databricks - really important, strong expertise here
  • SQL
  • PBI, Dax - they dont need to develop reports or anything but critical they know the path from the data model to the PBI dashboard/visualization
  • they are building in a Medallion architecture, gold layer (structured data)

Title - Sr. Data Modeler
Duration - 6 mos+ (likely extension based on volume of work)
Start date - 9/9 - as soon as identified
Location - Prefer San Diego (location of HQ and Sr. Director of Analytics; however, completely open to 100% remote)...looking for best candidate

QuidelOrtho is well underway in a Enterprise wide Data Lake build out. They are leveraging a medallion architecture working to build to the Gold layer. As they begin to take on data now being introduced to the data lake in preparation for reporting and analytics, they are in need of a Data Modeler to assist the existing team. The focus is working between the Data Engineering team, the Reporting Team and the business stakeholders to define success and desired outcomes for reporting. The consultant will review code, talk to business, design/build requirements. This is an end to end role - responsibilities including the design/build through execution. The ability of the consultant to make recommendations regarding structure and design of data models, the request to ingest different types of data into the data lake, ability to enhance/modify existing models to building new models. Consultant should have extensive experience developing and integrating semantic models to enhance data usability. QuidelOrtho is working on the synch between Power BI and Fabric so any experience with Fabric is a HUGE plus. This is a very hands on position. This person needs to be self-sufficient and be able to work autonomously - but also be a part of the team where/when necessary. This consultant will play \"right hand person\" to Sr. Manager of Analytics and Reporting. The tech stack is Azure Data lake, ADF, Databricks, SQL, PBI, DAX.

Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain data models for Azure Data Lake.
- Collaborate with data engineers, reporting team and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into effective data models.
- Implement data modeling best practices to ensure data integrity, consistency, and performance.
- Improves/enhances existing data models, increasing data accessibility, and fostering data-driven decision making across the organization
- Optimize data storage and retrieval processes within Azure Data Lake.
- Develop and maintain documentation for data models, data dictionaries, and data flow diagrams.
- Perform data profiling and analysis to identify data quality issues and recommend solutions.
- Work with Engineers to ensure seamless integration of data models into data pipelines.
- Monitor and troubleshoot data model performance and make necessary adjustments.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in data modeling and Azure Data Lake.

Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Data Modeler, specifically with Azure Data Lake.
- Strong experience with data modeling, data modeling concepts, methodologies, and tools.
- Experience with Azure Data Lake, Azure Data Factory, and other Azure data services.
- Experience with Databricks, Power BI, DAX
- MS Fabric is a HUGE plus – not just knowledge of but actual work experience with
- Strong experience in SQL and experience with data modeling tools.
- Develop and integrate semantic models to enhance data understanding and usability.
- Knowledge Star Schema and understanding of Medallion Architecture
- Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and ETL processes.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Certification in Azure Data Engineering or related fields.
- Familiarity with data governance and data quality frameworks.
